The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees approved a contract for restoration work from the tornado damage to the Minnesota State Community and Technical College Wadena campus.

The campus was hit by a tornado on June 17. There were no injuries on site but the college's main building sustained severe damage. Three other buildings on the campus also were damaged.

The estimated cost for restoring the college is $3-5 million. Insurance proceeds will be the primary source of funds, though the college also anticipates applying for the Federal Emergency Management Agency for financial assistance. The contract is with JB Structures, Inc.

Most of the repairs are expected to be completed by the time the fall terms starts in late August.

"The college staff took quick action to secure the building and prevent further damage, and nearly all classes resumed at the college by June 28," said Laura King, the system's chief financial officer and vice chancellor for finance and facilities. "President Ann Valentine and her team worked closely with city and county officials to continue service to the community."
