Miss Tootsie contest on tap March 16
The third annual Miss Tootsie contest will be held Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m.
This year, the theme of the contest is "GaGa Goo" - the music and fashion of Lady Gaga.
"I had seen Lady Gaga's meat dress on that one award show, and I thought, you know that would be kind of a fun theme," organizer Bonnie Kingsley said. "I'm hoping that the guys will come up with some really interesting outfits."
With the contest being held in March rather than January like the last two years, Kingsley said it would make an opportunity for potential contestants who are busier during the winter to be part of Miss Tootsie.
"We're hoping to be able to get some of those people that were involved with hockey and wrestling and some of that," she said.
At least five or six contestants will be needed for the family friendly comedy event to happen.
Men over 21 interested in participating may contact Kingsley at (218) 371-9487.
The contestants will participate in an opening group dance number and compete in all the regular pageant areas such as casual wear, talent, evening gown and on-stage question. There will also be a popular vote for the people's choice award.
The contest encourages complete silliness and as much fun as they can stand.
Doug Curtis as "Constant Lee Doodling" will crown the winner as the reigning 2011 Miss Tootsie. Last year he stole the show with his cartooning talent along with winning other categories. The 2010 winner was Dean Uselman as "Patti O'Furniture."
Miss Tootsie is named after the 1982 film "Tootsie" starring Dustin Hoffman, who plays a struggling actor who disguises himself as a woman to land a role in a soap opera.
"He sees an advertisement for a beauty competition," Kingsley said. "We draw the name from that."
Miss Tootsie is a fundraiser for the Miss Wadena scholarship pageant, which is tentatively set for June 23.
