Miron paces Wolverines in 67-55 Mid-State win

Emily Miron came up with 23 points Tuesday in leading Wadena-Deer Creek to a 67-55 Mid-State Conference win over Crosby-Ironton.

Caitlin Volkmann was right behind Miron with 18 tallies.

Chelsey Bonsante passed the 1,000-point scoring mark in her career with a 19-point night. Shannon Lundgren and Meredith Silgen combined for 21 points.

The Wolverines have won three of their last four and are now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-State. Staples-Motley and Pequot Lakes are still undefeated in Mid-State play.

The Wolverines shook off some early foul trouble to give the Hornets trouble in a Jan. 5 contest at Frazee.

Emily Miron scored 13 points and collected seven rebounds. Melissa Moenkedick had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hope Theisen recorded six steals.

"Frazee is a good team," WDC Head Coach Keith Ferris said. "Every time we would make a run they would come back and hit a tough shot."

Alexis Tappe led all scorers with 26 while Josi Tappe added 14 points.

The Wolverines held the Braves to a season-low 23 points Jan. 3 and opened the New Year with their eighth victory in 12 season outings.

The Braves were held to seven points in the second half after trailing by eight, 24-16, at the midway point.

"We played a little sluggish in the first half," WDC Head Coach Keith Ferris said. "We came out slow and couldn't seem to find a rhythm in our offense. We made some adjustment and played better in the second half."

Hope Theisen paced WDC in scoring with 16. Emily Miron tacked up 12. Theisen also dished out five assists while Miron had five assists and five blocks.

Shelby Pihlaja led the Braves with 13 points.

The loss dropped the Braves to 5-4.
