Mikkelson will run again for Todd County sheriff
Todd County Sheriff Peter J. Mikkelson announced he will seek another term as Todd County Sheriff in the upcoming election. Mikkelson is completing his first term as sheriff which he started in 2007.
Mikkelson started his career in law enforcement in 1979 with the Clarissa and Browerville Police Departments. From 1981 to 1987, he was a patrolman for the St. Bonifacius-Minnetrista Public Safety Department in the western part of Hennepin County.
Mikkelson was hired as a deputy with the Todd County Sheriff's Office in 1987 and served in that capacity until he was elected sheriff. As a deputy, he was involved in numerous types of duties. He was a Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer in the majority of the schools in Todd County. He implemented a training program for new road deputies in his role as field training officer, and was also a high school liaison officer.
As Sheriff, Mikkelson started a new website for the Todd County Sheriff's Office and publishes monthly newsletters on that site. He also implemented an in-squad computer system which included software for every function of the office. Mikkelson said he realizes there are definite budget concerns in the upcoming years.
