Mid-Central collaborates with Central Lakes College
Organizers are excited about what they have in the 1st Annual Ag and Energy Expo being planned in Staples on Friday, Feb. 18, and there's still time to get registered as either an attendee or an exhibitor.
"We are very excited about the collaboration with Central Lakes College (Brainerd/Staples) CLC Ag Center, and Mid-Central Federal Savings Bank, Wadena, Staples and Long Prairie for the 1st Annual Ag and Energy Expo," said Julia Palmer from Mid-Central Federal Savings Bank. "The program comes at a perfect time as we are all focusing on a new/modern 'Go Green' theme and CLC has just announced renaming their Ag Department 'Central Lakes College Ag and Energy Center,' which leads us nicely into 2011 with future thoughts on energy conservation and natural resource opportunities and finances."
The event will open at 9:30 a.m. with a breakfast, registration and exhibits. Palmer said a special emphasis is being placed on the following current topics:
Crop insurance: Paul Detlof, Leaf River Ag Service
Conservation Stewardship Program: Russ Kleinschmidt, NRCS, Todd County
Wind energy considerations: Dave Winkelman, WERC
Nutrient management: Ed Uhlenkamp
Solar applications: Jason Edens, RREAL
"We have many exhibitors/members and producers registering promoting a variety of products from wind towers/turbines, solar heat, and energy efficiency equipment, to grain drying crop demonstrations and bio equipment," she said.
The key speaker/entertainer Randall Reeder will share his knowledge expertise regarding soil management and conservation as a university professor. Reeder will also share his humor and tales as a lifelong farmer, sharing the lighter side of life on the farm. Reeder is also a 20-year member of the National Speakers Association NSA, and also performs as Will Rogers). He was raised on a livestock farm and has been involved in agriculture his whole life, and spent 30 years as a university professor.
