Meyer reaches 50 in Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Invite
Logan Meyer won his second shot put title in two days Tuesday at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Invitational.
The Wadena-Deer Creek senior won the event with a toss of 50 feet. Meyer won the shot put in the Browne Invitational Monday with a toss of 51 feet. The 2011 state shot put qualifier showed his talent in the weights at Long Prairie with a second place fling of 126-9.5 in the discus.
Earning runner-up finishes for the Wolverines were Emma Schmitz, Autumn Jahnke and Keiann Steward. Schmitz ran a 5:48.49 in the 1,600. Jahnke matched her winning jump Monday in the Browne Invitational by going 7-6 in the pole vault. Steward racked up runner-up points in the 100 dash with a 13.70 time and placed third in the 200 dash with a 28.01.
The Albany Huskies won the boys' meet with 125.75 points while Staples-Motley was second with 120. The WDC boys placed ninth in the 12-team field with 27.25. Long Prairie-Grey Eagles earned top honors in the girls' meet with 125 points. Tying for second were Osakis and Albany with 103 points each. The WDC girls took eighth with 38.50 points.
Four Wolverines claim firsts in Browne Invitational
Wadena-Deer Creek's Logan Meyer, Emma Schmitz, Brody Wangsness and Autumn Jahnke racked up firsts Monday as the weather-delayed Browne Invitational was held under sunny skies in Wadena.
Meyer took top honors in the shot put by reaching the 51-foot mark for the first time this season in meet competition. Meyer also took third in the discus with a toss of 126-01.
Schmitz set the winning pace in the 1,600 run and crossed the finish line in a time of 6:03.42.
Wangsness placed in three individual events and won the boys' pole vault with an eight-foot effort. Wangsness was also second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18:49 and fourth in the 300 hurdles with a 49.45.
Jahnke dominated the girls' pole vault competition with a 7-6 effort. Jahnke also scored in the 100 hurdles with a fifth-place time of 19.09.
Kayla Hanson was second for the Wolverines in the 200 dash with a 28.73 time. Sydney Schissel claimed second in the pole vault with a 6-2.
Will Eliason gave WDC runner-up points in the 1600 with a time of 5:11.75. The Wolverines also scored second place points in the 4x400 relay with a 3:49.32 and third place points in the 4x800 relay with a 9:07.84.
The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs captured first place in the boys' meet by racking up 15 firsts and 231 points. The Ashby-Brandon-Evansville girls edged OTC 154.5 to 146 for top honors. Both WDC teams placed fourth in the seven-team meet. Terry Olson's boys racked up 72 points while his girls scored 65.5.
Tessa Arvik was Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's top finisher with a winning time of 14:16.19 in the 3,200 run. The BHV 4x100 relay team claimed third with a 50.89 and the 4x200 relay squad placed third with a 1:54.08.
