Memorial Day ceremonies on tap
A Memorial Day program will be held Monday, May 30 in Wadena.
For early risers, a flag-raising ceremony will take place at 6:30 a.m. at the cemetery near the mausoleum.
At 9 a.m., a service will take place at Wadena Cemetery, starting with a welcome by VFW Commander Chuck Venzke.
The prayer will be led by the Rev. Marli Danielson, followed by the playing of the National Anthem by the Wadena-Deer Creek High School Band, led by director Lisa Weniger. Venzke will then lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Memorial Day address will be delivered by SSG Matt Aygren, active duty National Guard, an Iraq veteran.
The VFW Auxiliary will then conduct the placing of the wreaths.
Readings will be done by David Anderson, retired Navy and Wadena County Veterans Service Officer.
Weniger's band will then play again, followed by a benediction from Danielson.
VFW Post 3922 will hold a firing squad salute and play "Taps."
In case of bad weather, the event will be held inside at Memorial Auditorium.
The public is also invited to a Memorial Day program to honor service men and women who died at sea. That will be held at South Sunnybrook Park by the footbridge to Fair Oaks. It will be approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the program at Wadena Cemetery.
