Melvin Arthur Fuller, 84, of Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples, and formerly of Verndale, passed away Aug. 15, 2009, at the Care Center.
He was born at home in rural Minnesota on May 3, 1925, to Wesley and Bessie (Reynolds) Fuller. He served in the Navy from Jan. 15, 1945, to Aug. 20, 1946. He married Marian Chilberg on Sept. 20, 1946, at Balsamlund Lutheran Church in rural Aldrich. He served on the Bartlett Township Board for 35 years, and was a member of the Mid-American Dairy Association, the VFW, the Men's Club, and Balsamlund Lutheran Church. He rang the church bell and made sure the church was warm when others arrived. His livelihood was made in dairy farming. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, taking rides on the gator, eating holiday meals, four-wheeling, fishing, watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "The Price is Right." He loved lutefisk. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandkids.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Verndale with the Rev. Del Moen officiating. Interment was in Balsamlund Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Fuller, Jeff Morris, Ben Johnson, Michael O'Keefe, Kevin O'Keefe and Aaron Fuller. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his wife, Marian; son, David (Pamela) of Verndale; daughter, Melanie (Steven) O'Keefe of Staples; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Thelma Damlo of Perham, Audrey Wilcox of California, and Laverna Curtis of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Bessie; sons, Kevin and Jeffrey; sister, Lois Sulzle; and brother, Robert.
