Maxine Stella Brown, 77, passed away Dec. 23, 2008, in Tepic, Mexico, while visiting her son and daughter-in-law, who reside in San Blas, Mexico.
She was born April 3, 1931, in Barnesville, Minn., the daughter of Austin and Addie Johnson. She attended school grades 1-9 in Hibbing, then moved with her parents to Trent, S.D., where she finished high school. She married Charles Brown on July 23, 1949. They resided in Pelican Rapids for about five years when Charles was working as a heavy equipment operator. After Charles graduated from MSU, they lived for two years in Evansville and three years in Perham.
For the next 30 years, they resided overseas working for the Department of Defense. She was an avid camper and traveler, having worked on four different continents and visiting two others. She enjoyed skiing, fishing, golfing, bridge and being with her family.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on July 23 in the United Methodist Church in Wadena. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. in the church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; sons, Douglas and David and their wives, Pat and Nadine; two grandchildren; six sisters; one brother; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jim and Maynard.
