The Maslowski Wellness and Research Center is going to break ground on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. If you have driven by the construction site just north of the WDC Middle/High School recently, you will note they have started to level the ground and are getting down to work quickly before the ground freezes!
To make the event fun and memorable, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center will be multi-generational and inclusive. The facility will be built for all generations – preschool through seniors and will be accessible for people with all different disabilities and from all different backgrounds to enjoy as well. As such, everyone should be involved in the groundbreaking as well, not just men in suits wearing hard hats and holding shovels for a picture.
So, we have set out to do just that-celebrate the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center by “Making A Splash in Central Minnesota!!!” Although the groundbreaking is a little later than we had originally planned and we might just see the “s” word prior to the day, nonetheless, we will make the best of it inside or outside, depending on the weather!
Plan A is that we will be on the west end of the construction site (near the new hockey arena) and Plan B is that we will be in the Middle/High School gymnasium in case of inclement weather.
The invitations have been sent and the public has been invited, so we are ready to make it happen. The WDC Pep Band will be playing, kids from the school will be joining in on the fun with sand pails/shovels (and maybe even sunglasses and beach towels!), the mayor and city council will be on hand to give their thumbs up, state and local representatives have been invited, TCHC rehab patients have been asked to participate, naming rights donors have been asked to help us get the project underway, and a flock of rubber duckies have been seen hovering over Wadena for the event as well.
So, whether we are outside or inside, the groundbreaking celebration is sure to be a memory for all ages in the years ahead. It is a time to celebrate another step in the rebuilding of Wadena after the tornado of 2010. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony as well.
Please consider this your personal invitation to attend the event and celebrate together the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center groundbreaking!
