Mary June Grant, 82, of New York Mills, passed away March 16, 2009, at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.

She was born on June 18, 1926, in Lake Preston, S.D. to Henry Christopher and Julia Effie (Paige) Primasing. When she was 2 years old, the family moved and farmed in rural New York Mills and Wadena. She attended country schools, starting school near Wadena and finishing grade school near New York Mills. She attended high school in New York Mills for three years. On Aug. 4, 1943, she married Stanley Elmer Grant at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Ore. She graduated from Lebanon High School in Oregon with the class of 1944. She was employed at a restaurant, and was a dime store clerk and a telephone operator. When Stanley returned from the Navy in October 1945, they made their home in Sebeka. They moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where she was employed with clerical work in a roofing sales office and Stanley attended School of Engineering. From 1949-1952, she and Stanley made their home in Beulah, N.D., where they owned and operated an electrical appliance store. In spring 1952, they made their home on a farm north east of New York Mills. In 1955, they returned to Milwaukee for a short time before moving to Minnetonka, Minn., for 10 years. The following years she and Stanley resided in Wahpteton, N.D., New York Mills and Coon Rapids, Minn. On Dec. 10, 1983, they moved into their retirement home in New York Mills. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home, where she and Stanley would winter somewhere. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and wrote her "Mary's Mumblings" for the New York Mills Herald. Since May 2007, she has made her home at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills with the Rev. Jon T. Haakana officiating. The pallbearers were Nicholas Hoffman, Glen Hemphill, Roy Hemphill, Chris Quiggle, Rick Hoffman and Lon Hanson. She was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, NewYork Mills. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Stanley Grant of New York Mills; daughter, Marlys Hoffman of Elk River; son, Ronald Grant of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sister, Ruth Imsande of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Clayton Primasing, Dorothy Petersen, Charlotte Becker, and Phyllis Saari.
