Mary Erickson

The memorial service for Mary Erickson of Wadena will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena with Fr. Aaron Kuhn presiding. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Mary passed away at the age of 70 years on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at her home in rural Wadena. Mary (Morris) Erickson if Wadena and formerly of Staples, passed away peacefully in her home of 44 years outside Wadena early in the morning of November 23, 2013.

Mary was born February 2, 1942 in Aldrich, MN to Wallace and Elizabeth (Spillane) Morris. She graduated from Staples High School in 1961 and married John Erickson of Wadena on January 4, 1964.

Mary joined her husband in raising and racing horses on the family farm where her diminutive stature and brave spirit made her the jockey of the team. She worked a number of years at local businesses throughout her life.

It is often said that great things come in small packages. Mary personified this with a vivacious, larger-than-life personality, a heart of gold and a healthy sense of humor that touched everyone she encountered.

Mary was a dedicated and loving wife of nearly 50 years; a patient, loving and caring mother of three and a true friend to her friends and family. In her children she passed on a solid sense of work ethic, a love for all animals, and while no one inherited her musical singing talents she did pass on a love of music and fond memories of her singing classic songs of the late 50s and early 60s. Mary's feisty spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her husband; two sons, Scott (Lyndie) of Springfield VA and Shawn (Rachelle) of Plymouth, MN; one daughter, Sara (John Kropuenske) Erickson of Motley, MN; four grandchildren; an aunt, Lucille Zita of Wadena; on sister, Carol (Kirk) Herman of Fridley, MN; three sister-in-laws, Jill (Bill) Schafer of Perham, MN, Jodi (Mark) Miksche, and Jeri (Donnie) Scheller of Wadena; neices, nephews, cousins; and her favorite cat Gracie.

She is preceded in death by her parents; parent in-laws; one brother, Douglas Morris; and one step-sister, Barbara Thompson.

Arrangements are with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. (
