The funeral service for Marlys Marie Wood of Wadena, and formerly of the Verndale and Hewitt area, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena with Pastor Nate Loer officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Marlys passed away at the age of 78 on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Marlys was born to Adolph and Sylvia (Plautz) Lage on January 13, 1936, at their home in Hewitt, MN. She attended and graduated from the Verndale school system. She married the love of her life, LaVern Elmer Wood, on November 17, 1955, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005.

Marlys worked as an administrative assistant at the MN State Capitol and at various banks in the Twin Cities. Later in life she worked as an administrative assistant at Experience Works in Wadena. She was a farm wife and homemaker. She enjoyed going to work. She also enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time outdoors gardening. She collected swan figurines and spent many hours reading. Above all, she loved being with her children and grandchildren as well as the many friends she made throughout her life.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Sylvia Lage; son Lee in 1974; brother Larry Lager; and sisters Marilyn Marsh and Beverly Burrows.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 58 years, LaVern; son Glen (Donna) of Wadena; grandchildren Andrew (Jaime Salo) Wood, Emily Wood, Dustin Syverson, Scott (Kelsi Crawford) Syverson and Kristina Wood; great grandchild Baby Wood on the way; and sisters LaVonne (Dan) Sommars of Wadena and Ellen Bubak of Henderson, NV.

Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Wood, Emily Wood, Dustin Syverson, Scott Syverson, Kelsi Crawford, Jay Leaderbrand and Wayne Leaderbrand.

Burial will be in Hewitt Cemetery in Hewitt, MN.
