Marian Louise Kern, 88, of Wadena, passed away Dec. 15, 2009, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
She was born Oct. 31, 1921 to Joseph and Matilda (Geber) Boyer at Wesley Hospital in Wadena. She lived her entire life in Wadena until her death.
Marian became the bride of Melvin Kern on Feb. 8, 1941 in Hewitt. Over the years she was employed at the Farmers Home Administration and Wadena County ASCS. She was active in 4-H, the United Methodist women's group, Garden Club, and Homemakers Club. Gardening, quilting, photography, bread-making and going to the fair were her favorite pastimes.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19 in the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shirley Nelson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Marian's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Scott Such, David Gira, Gail Kern, JJ Kern, Aaron Kern, and Christopher Hipp. Burial will be held at a later date in the Wadena Cemetery. Survivors include her sons, James (Lori) of Wadena and Gerald (Ivy) of Wadena; daughters, Janice (Charles) Gira of Fargo, N.D., Patricia (Donald) Lawyer of Lake Park, and Linda (LeRoy) Kern-Kolquist of Superior, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in December 2003; her parents, Joseph and Matilda; son, Charles Kern; grandsons, Steven and Michael Kern; and brothers, Richard and Joseph Boyer.
