Marian Signe (Bagdons) Eskeli, 90, passed away March 30, 2009, at the Elder's Home in New York Mills.
She was born Nov. 16, 1918, to August and Amanda (Laurenon) Sillanpaa in New York Mills. She married Chester Bagdons on Sept. 20, 1936, in Wadena. Chester passed away in June 1981. She later married Leonard Eskeli in September 1991. They lived in Wadena and later moved to New York Mills, remaining friends after their divorce in 1999. She belonged to the Wadena Assembly of God Church and Eye to Eye. She had a talent for making the best pies, growing flowers and telling stories to the children. She loved to sing and spend time with her family. She was very active in her church, serving as president of the Ladies Group and taught Sunday School for 23 years. She was dedicated to visiting the elderly and shut-ins.
Funeral services were held at the Assembly of God Church in Wadena with the Rev. Allen Refsland officiating. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Nancy Wilkins, Kristi Ice, Wendy Molitor, Stefanie Kittelson, and Leanne Kaufenberg. Active pallbearers were Scott Tapley, Randy Rasmussen, Lee Rasmussen, Aaron Rasmussen, John Wilkins and Brad Ice. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include her daughters, Darlene (Gene) Hosner of Wadena, Bonnie (Robert) Tapley of Pahokee, Fla., and Carol (Leon) Rasmussen of Mankato; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester; her parents, August and Amanda; brothers, Arnie, William and Edwin Sillanpaa; and sisters, Ina Karvonen, Lena Arvo, Gertrude Oja, Esther Koskela, Edna Hepola and Hazel Smith.
