Many Wolverines could get the call to contribute
Seniors will lead the way this spring as Kevin Ross and the Wadena-Deer Creek boys' golf team pursue a stronger season on the links.
"We are led by seniors but all 12 should contribute and possibly will contribute to the varsity six," said Ross, who is taking over the head coaching duties from Jay Patterson. "The roster is not set as a number of the younger kids will compete for the spots."
Colton Borg, Andrew Browne and Brandon Kramer will lead this year's squad as upperclassmen. Taylor Byman is the club's lone junior. Tyler Fix and Bryan Silvers will represent the sophomore class. Eighth-graders on the club include Tyler Heintzen, Daniel Suhl, Evan Van Erp and Tony Reurink.
Borg, Browne, Kramer, Fix and Silvers all played varsity golf for the Wolverines last year.
"As a group there are about eight of them that could start at varsity and rotate," Ross said. "There are some that can shoot in the low 80s."
Ross does not rate his team as a powerhouse but he does see the potential for a good post-season of play.
"I am looking forward to a good year," Ross said. "We will get better as the year goes."
