Mad Lab is excited to introduce the cast of "girl." by Megan Mostyn-Brown, a native Minnesota playwright. This honest and compelling play is performed in three acts and delivered in monologue. This play is about what it means to be a girl in this day and age. The actors in this production show great strength, revealing their vulnerabilities in language that is honest and, at times, explicit. Madhatters Community Theatre has Amy Hunter returning to direct the first-ever Mad Lab production with Heather Jacquart assisting.

This play discusses some hard topics like teen drug addiction, suicide, self-mutilation, teen pregnancy, single parenting, runaways, promiscuity, date rape and abortion. Any of these issues, coupled with the pressure young people have from family, school, peers and society have the potential for disaster. This play will give the audience a glimpse of what the teens around them may be going through. According to the Madhatters, they are stories that need to be heard and to break down communication barriers; be it parents and children, or teachers and students and to encourage conversations that are proactive and meaningful.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. each night on Jan. 14, 15 and 16 at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center and Jan. 21, 22 and 23 at the Masonic Lodge of Wadena (above The Mall of Wadena).
