M State -- Wadena is receiving a facelift.

The north and west entrances are being enlarged and modernized with the addition of new doors and entries.

"The doors were past their age," M State -- Wadena Dean of Academics and Student Services Monty Johnson said. "Basically it's the first stage of an ongoing project."

J.P. Structures of Menahga is doing the construction work which Johnson believes will be completed by mid-May.

The exterior doors around the building will all replaced in the coming months to ensure the building is more energy-efficient.

The college has received $370,000 for the project.

The college is also planning to move its bookstore from its present location near the main offices to an area near the cafeteria. Bookstore profits will pay for the construction of the new bookstore, which Johnson said will be more user-friendly.

Johnson pointed out that the original portion of the M State -- Wadena building is more than 50 years old.

"We're doing what we can to modernize around the school which we desperately need," Johnson said.

Johnson is also quite excited about a decision to start an industrial maintenance class at Central Lakes-Staples. The class will start this fall.
