Lyle Haman

Funeral services were set to be held for Lyle Haman, age 76, of New York Mills on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minn., with Pastor Harvey Johnson officiating. The hymns were to be sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janell Brakel.  The pallbearers were Joseph Haman, Adam Haman, Loren Haman, Jake Kopveiler, Matthew Luukkonen and Neil Perala.  Lyle was laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Bluffton.

Lyle Francis Haman was born on Sept. 12, 1935, in Bluffton, Minn. His parents were the late William and Hildegard (Geiser) Haman. 

Lyle attended country school in Bluffton/Newton Township and graduated from New York Mills High School with the class of 1953. He also attended St. John's University in St. Cloud, Minn. for one year before returning home to help on the family farm. 

Lyle served in the U.S. Army from March 15, 1955 to Feb. 28, 1957. And on April 22, 1961, he was united in marriage with Elma Marja Holtti at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton, Minn. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Terry, David and Julie. Together, they made their home and farmed in Newton Township, rural New York Mills.

After retiring from farming, Lyle enjoyed working with the city of New York Mills, where he was given the title of "Shop Boss."

Lyle loved the outdoors, riding four-wheeler and had a knack for turning a wrench. He was very mechanically inclined, as he could fix anything. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, carpentry, woodworking of all kinds and reading. 

Elma passed away on March 18, 2010. And on Aug. 30, 2012, Lyle passed away peacefully at Transitions in Perham Living, Perham, Minn. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Preceding Lyle in death were his parents; wife, Elma; daughter, Julie; brothers-in-law Leo Waskosky and Waino Holtti and his wife, Shirley.

Lyle is survived by his two sons, Terry (Rebecca) Haman of New York Mills and David (Shelley Duel) Haman of New York Mills; five grandchildren: Joseph Haman (Gretchen Bunker) of Dilworth, Shelly (Jake) Kopveiler of New York Mills, Adam Haman (Shelby Olson) of Cosmos, Loren Haman of New York Mills, Shyla Haman and Tony Duel; two great-grandchildren: Sam and Jeremy Kopveiler;  three sisters: Patricia Waskosky of Henning, Irene (Jim) Kasal of Fort Collins, Colo. and JoAnn (Roy) Luukkonen of Brainerd; seven brothers: Ralph (MaryAnn) Haman of New York Mills, LeRoy (Karen) Haman of Bluffton, Robert (Donna) Haman of Wadena, Art (Beverly) Haman of Laport, Arnold (Carolyn) Haman of New York Mills, Gerald (Jo) Haman of New York Mills and Darrell (Peggy) Haman of Wadena; two brothers-in-law: Donald (Darlene) Holtti of Bluffton and Michael (Helen) Holtti of Minneapolis; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

 Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills, Minn.
