Lucille E. Hanson, 81, of Wadena, was born on July 19, 1928, in Wadena, and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
Lucille grew up farming in Leaf River Township, just outside of Wadena. She graduated from Wadena High School in 1946 and Park Rapids Teachers Training in 1947. She continued her education while teaching and graduated from Bemidji State College in 1959.
Her teaching career began in 1947-49 at District 51 (northeast of Sebeka), followed by 1949-51 at District 44 (Thomastown), 1951-55 at District 219 (Hay Creek), and 1955-63 at Eagle Bend. In 1963, she moved to Minneapolis and continued teaching in the Minneapolis Public Schools; from 1963-64 at Audubon Elementary; 1964-74 at Lake Harriet Elementary; and from 1974-82 at Burroughs Elementary. She taught for 35 years and retired from teaching in 1982.
Upon retirement she moved back to Wadena. She spent time helping on the farm, caring for her parents and gardening. She was an active community member and a member of the Wadena Evangelical Church. She supported several local programs as well as Camp Jim located near Brainerd. She was a five-year resident of Fair Oaks Lodge.
Funeral services were held Jan. 15 in the Wadena Evangelical Church with the Rev. Jeff Heisler officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Ellsworth, Kaleb Lommen, Kory Lommen, Kaycee Lommen, Sabrina Smith and Alysha Smith. Interment was in the Sebeka West Cemetery in rural Sebeka. Survivors include a sister, Linda (Paul) Rohe; nieces, Melody (Scott) Lommen, Robin Rohe-Ellsworth, Joy (Mike) Smith; and 10 grandnieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Esther Hanson; and grand-nephew, Paul Joseph Ellsworth.
