Services were held for Lorraine Holm, age 92 of Brainerd, Minnesota (formerly of Staples, MN & Battle Lake, MN) on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomastown Covenant Church, Staples, Minnesota with Pastor Nathan Hillman officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Ardis Schimp. Special music was provided by Steve Young. Interment was in Thomastown Covenant Church Cemetery, Staples, Minnesota.
Lorraine Ingle was born on July 21, 1921 in Akaska, South Dakota. Her parents were the late Edson F. and Marian Louise (Risk) Ingle. Lorraine was engaged to Melvin Lundquist Holm in Aberdeen, SD and was married March 21, 1940 in Clifton, AZ. Lorraine and Melvin moved a couple times cooking for mining companies in Clifton, Tuscon and Trona, AZ. In the late 1940s they elected to move back to Minnesota to be near family and moved to a small farm in Staples, MN. They tried farming for a living but quickly returned to their passion which was cooking which they both did and enjoyed for many years in Staples in a restaurant they named Holms Caf. Melvin passed away on November 23, 1971. Lorraine continued to manage and cook but eventually sold the restaurant and moved to Tucson, AZ. She returned to Minnesota to be near family, but indicated one of the most exciting things she did was at age 62 was to be a kitchen manager in England. During this time she had the opportunity to see many sights in England and even toured Oslo, Norway. From 1999-2007 Lorraine resided in Battle Lake, MN where she was employed with the Shoreline Caf. Lorraine made her home in Brainerd, Minnesota. On January 26, 2014 Lorraine passed away surrounded by her loving family at Essentia St. Joseph's Medical Center at 92 years of age.
Preceding Lorraine in death were her parents; husband, Melvin Holm; sons: Daniel Lee Holm, Gary Melvin Holm and his wife, Jeanette Maria Kivisto, Jerry Thomas Holm and his wife Lois Leininger; siblings: James Edson Ingle, Thomas Clayton Ingle, Wanda B. Jewett, Mettie Lou (Patty) Burnett and Juanita Fay Smith.
Lorraine is survived by her seven grandchildren: Kristy Johnson of Grand Forks; Kurt (Michele) Holm of Staples; Kevin (Lisa) Holm of Wadena; Lisa (Steve) Young of Battle Lake; William (Ashley) Holm of Crosby; Jerri Lynn (Dan) Pearson of SLC, Utah and Thomas (Jennifer) Holm of SLC, Utah; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, foster children. other relative and a host of friends.
