Lorene Alma Francis Salmela, 89, formerly of Sebeka, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins, Minn.
She was born Aug. 22, 1917, to William and Amelia (Bobzin) Heisner in Manhattan, Ill. She lived in Argyle, Minn., and Prosper, N.D., before moving to Sebeka in 1959 where she lived until 2005. She moved to Watkins, Minn., in July 2005. She married Verdie Salmela on Nov. 15, 1975. She was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Menahga. She was also a Legion Auxiliary member of Berg Nylund Post 456 of Sebeka. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose life revolved around family and friends. She always had time for kind words and a soft shoulder to lean on. Her compassion, love and setting of good examples were given to her entire family.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Menahga. Active casket bearers included Chad Cooper, Jarod Cooper, Kevin Harris, Garth Jordahl, Richard Jordahl and Andrew Shepherd. Interment will be at Sebeka West Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Roger) Cooper, of Watkins, Minn.; sons, Richard (Cheryl) Jordahl of Moorhead, Eugene Poolman (Lack Wood) of St. Louis, Park, Minn.; Gerald (Karen) Jordahl of New Hope, Minn.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin Heisner (Esther) of Peotone, Ill., as well as many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Wilbur; sisters, Loretta, Viola and Esther; also Harry Poolman, Oscar Jordahl and Verdie Salmela.
