Long Prairie Packing Company announces big expansion
American Foods Group LLC announced a multimillion dollar modernization and expansion of its Long Prairie Packing Plant. Demolition has been completed on 4,000 sq. ft. of building to make room for a 15,000 sq. ft. addition. This expansion will occur without production downtime.
"The Long Prairie plant was purchased by my uncle, Lud Rosen, who was a partner with my dad back in 1974," said Tom Rosen, CEO, American Foods Group LLC. "Through many expansions the plant is what it is today. We have enjoyed working with the city and are proud to be in Long Prairie."
The Long Prairie Packing Company is expanding due to an increased market demand for processed meat, specifically Kosher.
"This expansion gives us the added opportunity to implement the latest food safety standards," said Greg Benedict, American Foods Group's COO and president. "Additionally we will be able to produce Kosher meat for the largest Kosher hot dog maker in the world."
This expansion will increase productivity by 25 percent and enhance food safety measures.
Providing more than 370 jobs to the community, Long Prairie Packing Company is the second largest employer to Long Prairie's population of 3,800. The completion goal of this expansion is February and an anticipated 25 new jobs will be created.
