Lohmiller, Wangsness notch victories at Walker

Wadena-Deer Creek standouts Sutton Lohmiller and Brody Wangsness tacked up individual victories Friday in leading the Wolverines to a seventh-place finish in the Walker May Day Invitational.

Lohmiller had a winning throw of 44-7 in the shot put and placed fourth in the discus with a 103-3. Wangsness set the winning pace in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.74. Wangsness also took fifth in the 300 hurdles with a 46.78.

The Wolverines saw the 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams take third and fourth respectively with times of 1:40.87 and 46.78.

Tommaso Caramelli was WDC’s top sprinter with a third place time of 11.80 in the 100 dash. Sam Kelderman gave the Wolverines a seventh place time of 25.05 in the 200 dash.

Jimmy Kim and Will Eliason ran fifth and sixth in the 800 run with times of 2:16.21 and 2:18.84.

Konnor Stueve tacked up long distance points for WDC by taking sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:21.49.

Ethan Phung led International Falls to victory in the boys’ meet with winning leaps of 6-0 in the high jump and 38-6 in the triple jump.

The Wolverines came up with 59 points.

Autumn Jahnke and Liz Peterson gave the Wadena-Deer Creek girls a third of their 37 meet points in one event as they placed second and fifth in the pole vault. Jahnke gained a tied with International Falls’ Claire Herzig by going 8-0. Peterson went 7-6.

Peterson led the Wolverines in the 300 hurdles by running a 54.45 for fourth place.

The Wolverines picked up two fourths and a fifth in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays by posting times og 59.34, 2:04.33 and 4:43.18.

Hannah Vorderbruggen scored points for WDC in the 800 run with a fourth place time of 2:42.02.

Bagley/Fosston’s Marissa Carlson was a double winner in the girls’ meet with times of 2:27.96 in the 800 and 5:34.02 in the 1,600. Megan Porta of Pine River-Backus won the long jump with a 15-0 effort and the discus with a toss of 113-01.

International Falls took top team honors in the girls’ meet with 154 points.

Wangsness posts second, third place times for WDC

Brody Wangsness placed second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles Tuesday as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines placed fifth in the 10-team Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Invitational.

Wangsness ran a 47.21 in the 300 and a 16.72 in the 110.

WDC’s Sutton Lohmiller took fourth in the shot put with a 41-02.

Tommaso Caramelli paced the Wolverines in the sprint events with a third place time of 12.04 in the 100 dash and a fifth place time of 23.77 in the 200. Sam Kelderman picked up sixth place finishes in the 100 and 200 with times of 12.30 and 24.12.

The Wolverines had two relay teams pick up points with sixth place finishes. The 4x200 squad ran a 51.30 and the 4x400 team ran a 3:59.15.

The Wolverines racked up 51 points. Holdingford won the boys’ meet with 163 points.

Danyel Post and Autumn Jahnke were third place finishers as the Wadena-Deer Creek girls placed sixth in the 10-team meet.

Post went 30-08 in the triple jump while Jahnke cleared 8-65 in the pole vault. Liz Peterson was fifth in the pole vault with a 7-6.

Hannah Vorderbruggen picked up distance points for the Wolverines with a fifth-place time of 5:58.31 in the 1,600.

The Wolverines took sixth in the 4x100 with a time of 1:01.30.

Jessica Wood was WDC’s top finisher in the discus with a toss of 80-06.

Osakis won the girls’ meet with 181.50 points. The Wolverines took sixth with a 32.
