• Man turns in self after car chase
An 18-year-old Eagle Bend man turned himself in Tuesday night after allegedly stealing multiple vehicles including one from a Wadena resident’s driveway Monday night.
The police were looking for the man in connection with second-degree assault, multiple vehicle thefts and fleeing police. He is being held in the Todd County Jail awaiting formal charges.

• Belle Plaine woman shot
A Belle Plaine woman was accidentally shot in the leg Sunday morning seven miles east of Wadena in the area’s first hunting related accident this season.
Pam Clark is hospitalized at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis after undergoing surgery on the injured leg.
According to the Wadena County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting occurred about 6:49 a.m. Sunday in Leaf River Township. Apparently a 30.06 rifle accidentally discharged as another hunter was unloading it. The bullet entered through Clark’s rear upper leg and exited into the ground. She was transported by ambulance to Tri-County Hospital then airlifted to Minneapolis.
• No Wadena voters turn out
None of the dozen Wadena city voters participated in the Ottertail County $1.5 million vote on whether to finance a new veterans home in Fergus Falls. The measure passed 6,390 - 1,203 out of 31,586 registered Ottertail County voters. All 12 of the registered voters in the southwest portion of the city within Ottertail County stayed away from the ballot box. Bluffon City voters voted 14-0 for the project. Bluffton Township results were 17-0 in favor and Compton Township residents voted 22-3 in favor.

• Sebeka bowhunter injured in fall from tree stand
A 27-year old Sebeka bowhunter was seriously injured in a fall at about 4 p.m. Nov. 2 when he attempted to get into his tree stand three miles north and two miles west of Sebeka, according to Multi-County Emergency Services.
Daniel Jarvi was rushed by ambulance to Tri-County Hospital where he was treated and later transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo. The extent of his injuries was not available.
Jarvi had been bowhunting deer south of Wadena CSAH 13 near the Wadena-Ottertail county line.

• A new telegraph service available
Something on your mind that you’d like to tell the Governor, Lt. Governor, or a member of the state legislature in St. Paul? Well, now you can say it fast, by wire, from anywhere in Minnesota at a special rate of 85 cents for 15 words.
The new personal “opinion” message service (POM) has just been introduced by Western Union within Minnesota. As a result, anyone in Minnesota may call at a Western Union office and send to the state capitol a POM stating his attitude on an issue of local, state, national or general interest. The sender’s name and address, to assist in speeding a reply, are included at no extra cost.

Excerpts from the Nov. 3, 1943 Pioneer Journal
• Sure, he’d heard of that town!
In a letter to his wife, Lt. Gene Hotz, who is somewhere in England, wrote that he had an unusual experience while eating in a British mess in Wales. The British cook brought him a butter wrapper wondering if he might have heard of the town it came from.
It was from the Sebeka Creamery.
• Local woman struck by car
Mrs. William Dower of Wadena was struck by a car Friday evening and as a result she suffered a broken leg and numerous bruises about her head and shoulders. The driver of the car was a stranger.
Mrs. Dower is at home and doing quite well.
