Soldier: 'I have a purpose now'
Faith and prayers give Tom and Sherry Anderson of Wadena peace of mind that their son, Riley, will return home from Iraq.
Riley Anderson, 20, is in charge of security for his captain in Iraq. They drive across from three different locations around the Baghdad, Ramadi and Fallujah areas.
Letter: Madden '07, mail bring smiles in Iraq
SPC Larson was able to successfully get Internet hooked up into the huts we live in, and I am sure the e-mail traffic back home has noticeably increased on the family's end. We have set up a big screen TV that we acquired in Baghdad in one of the tents and hooked SPC Larson's PS3 up to it. There have been Madden 07 tournaments held in evenings to keep morale at its high rate. SGT Mayberry became the inaugural 2nd Platoon Madden 07 Champion, and he was so proud he even made a championship belt.
This week the 1SG also visited 2nd Platoon and seemed pleased with the discipline and standards being upheld by the Wildcards. They prove to amaze me everyday with their motivation and professionalism. Our mission can get draining at times, but the men make sure it gets accomplished and is successful.

County buys emergency equipment
Emergency safety suits and other equipment will help protect workers in case of bioterrorism in Wadena County.
"The suits can be used for more than just bioterrorism," said Wayne Terry, emergency management director. "With the rash of meth lab operations we've had in the area, the suits would be useful for that."
Man tried in Montana was Wadena suspect
A man tried for the attempted murder of a Billings, Mont., woman was a suspect in the 1987 disappearance of a Wadena woman.
Floyd Tapson, a suspect in the disappearance of Carla Anderson of Wadena on Nov. 13, 1987, worked at a group home for the developmentally handicapped in Billings in 1998 when he allegedly kidnapped, raped and almost killed a woman.

My article several weeks ago about the building of an indoor swimming pool and addition of artificial ice raised very few complaints and a host of compliments ... could it be I struck on some common ground for a change?
It appears there would be little if any support for a total takeover of the Community Center by the City of Wadena; however, some councilmen have expressed an arrangement similar to the Country Club.
Chances are that an indoor swimming pool would have to be built from a combination of private donations and city funds and funded with users fee and some type of subsidy by the city.
After visiting with several school board members, their participation in the actual building would be remote at best; however, their support through users fees might be substantial. Since the facility would be located across the street from the high school, physical education classes could be scheduled during the day and swim team competition in late afternoons.

'His Land' film to be shown at Immanuel
"His Land," a Billy Graham movie, will be shown at Immanuel Lutheran, Wadena, tonight, Feb. 9.
Across a barren land, scarred by centuries of war and neglect, the spectres of ancient Israel appear, hover, and fade away.
In the company of Cliff Barrows and Cliff Richard, England's popular star, who sings a number of new Ralph Carmichael songs, some of which were actually written on location, you travel the vibrant streets and lonely solitary paths of this nation whose destiny is daily discussed in the counsels of governments all over the world.
The pastor of Imannuel Lutheran is Victor C.A. Ovrebo.

Discuss armory for Wadena at Monday's C&C meeting
An armory for Wadena? This question was brought up before the Civic & Commerce board at their noon luncheon and business session Monday. In the initial discussion it was brought out that there is but one central meeting place in Wadena where a capacity crowd could be cared for, and this one place was being considerably overworked - Memorial auditorium.
