Tegan Peterson was crowned Miss Wadena 2004 and planned to attend the University of Minnesota -- Morris in the fall to major in psychology and major or minor in music.
Man pleads guilty to meth charges
Tracy Grant Karger, 39, of Richville, pleaded guilty to four methamphetamine-related charges in Otter Tail District Court. Karger was arrested in Wadena in February 2003 after eluding police since November 2001.

Mothers unite to form charter school
Three mothers united to begin the process of creating a charter school called Voyageur Academy with the hopes of strengthening the Wadena public school system. Mother Denise Ferguson was garnering community support. She planned to implement the "little red school house" mode of teaching, where grades one through three are taught in a single classroom with one teacher and perhaps an aide and grades four through six are taught in another classroom to allow younger students to see the relevance of what they are learning.
Telnet closes suddenly
Telnet Systems' office closed its doors suddenly last week after six years in New York Mills. The closing affected 192 employees.

Retired banker Carl Lind set a match to the mortgage for the Verndale Historical Society museum during an open house Sunday afternoon.
June Jubilee photos
Some of the photos of the June Jubilee that year included a 1921 Model Ford owned by Larry Gulsvig of Wadena, Lyle's Shoes and Archie's Super Valu neck and neck in the Wadena Jaycees bed races, and Little Bo Peep, one lost sheep and two wolves marching in the Kiddie Parade.

Youth playing with matches
The public was warned that children frequenting the area of the St. Ann's warming house and playground were lighting and burning matches. Youth were also reportedly stealing bikes in that area when students were busy participating with summer rec activities.
Nine girls seek Miss Vacationland title
Nine girls were set to compete in the two-day Jaycees' Vacationland Pageant featuring a public sing-along at Sunnybrook Park on Friday, and a saddle horse show at the fairgrounds, ladies nail-driving contest and other events on Saturday. The 1969 Miss Vacationland Queen's Pageant was set for Saturday night.

Recreation Director Whitey Held was making plans for swimming lessons for Wadena youngsters to begin in Menahga July 25.
Editorial urges gun caution
The Detroit Lakes Tribune urged that every precaution be taken when handling firearms after a boy died and another was injured in this area of Minnesota in gun accidents.
