The featured Farm to School items at WDC Elementary Cafeteria this month were bean sprouts. Many students had never experienced this very tasty, crunchy, white, mostly water vegetable. Sprouts are low in calories and a good source of nutrition grown using only water. They arrived in Wadena from Houston, Minn., the far southeastern corner of the state through Russ Davis Wholesale from the River Valley Sprout farm. One amazing fact about sprouts is that it takes only about five days from the time the seed is washed and sanitized until the are packaged and ready to eat.
