Memorial services for Lillian Thiel of Staples were held Jan. 12, 2013, at United Methodist Church in Staples, with Pastor Mark Bateson and Daryl Jacobson presiding. Lillian, 94, passed away Jan. 9, 2013, at the Lakewood Health System in Staples.
Lillian was born on Sept. 9, 1918, in Ada, Minn., to Henry and Elizabeth Schultz. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1933.
Also, Lillian was united in marriage with Howard Morey on July 24, 1942, in Riverside, Calif. Together, they made their home in Deer Creek. She was later united in marriage with Don Thiel of Moran Township on March 2, 1974, in Staples.
Lillian was a hairdresser. She lived in Deer Creek for 24 years before moving to rural Staples, and has been a member of the community for the last 39 years. She was active in Methodist church organizations and enjoyed gardening, square dancing, sewing, crocheting, reading and baking. She also liked keeping track of her children and grandchildren's activities.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 1965, and husband, Donald, in 2001; parents, Henry and Elizabeth; brother, Elroy Schultz; sisters, Marzetta Schultz and Ethel Schultz Wheeler; daughter-in-law, Maureen Thiel; and granddaughter, Stacy Lynne Thiel.
She is survived by her sons, Doug (Arlene) Morey, Gary Thiel and Dennis (Susan) Thiel; daughters, Donna Kay (Ronald) Selvey, Roxanne (James) Bakula, Jeanne (Bryan) Voelker and Janeen Rae (Paul Lohman); 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mabel Adams.
Pallbearers were Rick Selvey, Curt Morey, Dave Selvey, Kathy Crews, Darrin Thiel, Kevin Thiel, Jeremy Voelker, Travis Thiel, Paul Voelker and Mike Morey.
Interment will be in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery in Deer Creek.
Arrangements were with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes in Wadena.
