LHS to hold pregnancy and infant loss remembrance ceremony
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Each year, approximately one million pregnancies in the U.S. end in miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of the newborn child. Lakewood Health System hosts a special ceremony to acknowledge these painful losses and provide comfort to families each year.
Those who have been touched by a pregnancy or infant loss are invited to a ceremony of dedication and remembrance on Monday, Oct. 4. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on the patio level of the Main Campus just east of Staples.
The nondenominational ceremony will include poems, a time for reflection and a special candle-lit water service during which parents can light a candle in their child's name in the Serenity Sanctuary fountains. Refreshments will be served at the close of the ceremony. Those attending will receive a special token of remembrance.
Whether your loss is recent or was experienced in the past, all -- parents, family and friends -- are invited to attend. For more information contact Nola Varilek at (218) 894-8586.
