Legacy-funded programs coming after the New Year
Wadena Minnesota 314 S. Jefferson 56482

The Friends of the Wadena City Library are once again sponsoring the 2010 Giving Tree over the holiday season. They have also graciously agreed to match all of the donations up to $1,000! Every year that we have had a giving tree the proceeds go only for the new book titles that are purchased for the year. Please consider donating to the Giving Tree this year and help us to keep our shelves filled with brand new titles for you to read.

Make sure to get your calendars out and mark down the dates for all our Legacy-funded programs we have coming up after the New Year. First on the docket is singer/songwriter Neal Hagberg. He will be performing as part of the "Say It/Sing It: the art of storytelling" project on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Memorial Auditorium. Neal is half of the well-known duo Neal and Leandra and a frequent performer on public radio. As a solo artist he has sought ways to communicate challenging ideas through the medium of song.

Neal will share his personal journey from popular song to the evocative and provocative songs on his solo CD, "It's Not As Simple As It Seems." Everyone is welcome to come and explore the moral dilemmas and personal and social challenges of today in a whole new way - through their interaction with Neal's songs, their own experiences and the experiences of others. Some of the subjects may be uncomfortable, but the journey will be rewarding! Come to the Wadena City Library to pick up your free tickets to this event.

Greg Breining will be at the Wadena City Library at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25 to talk about his favorite subjects and the ones he writes about, fishing and kayaking in Minnesota. Come on in and check out one of his books before we welcome him.

Tentatively we have Candace Simar scheduled to be here Tuesday, Feb. 9 at noon. Candace is a Minnesota author from Pequot Lakes who took her children's advice and wrote her own book on the Minnesota historical event of the Sioux Uprising called the "Abercrombie Trail." 2012 will be the 150th anniversary of the uprising.

Singer/songwriter Elisa Korenne will be performing her Minnesota Sesquicentennial music for us here at the Wadena City Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9 and Minnesota's "renaissance man" - author, artist, musician, naturalist and wilderness guide, Douglas Wood, will be here at the library at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12.

I think I'll stop there for now and let everybody catch up on their schedules. I told you to get them ready! If you want to know more about any of these terrific people we have coming to engage and entertain us please come and check out one of their books or CDs at the library. You can also find a lot of information on each of their Web sites.

We are looking forward to having a wonderful time this winter and spring at the library. I enthusiastically invite everyone to fully partake in all we have to provide them ... oh, and don't forget to pick up some books while you're here.

On behalf of the entire Wadena City Library staff: Have a happy and safe holiday season!

See you at the library!
