Lawrence Wendell Leeseberg, 93, formerly of rural Wadena, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Bethany Home in Alexandria.
He was born June 4, 1916, to Earnest and Edith (LaBarge) Leeseberg in Deer Creek. He married Agnes Noreen "Nora" Theidich on Dec. 24, 1938, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Henning. They farmed in Henning until 1958 when they moved to Wadena. He worked construction and continued farming in Henning and Wadena. In later years he enjoyed raising and breeding quarter horses, until failing health in November 2002 required him to move to Bethany Home in Alexandria. He was a man who enjoyed a good Saturday night dance.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 11, in the Messiah Lutheran Church in Wadena with the Rev. Rachel L. O. Stout officiating and assisted by Christie Meier. Honorary pallbearers were Vernell Roberts, Jesse Snyder and Kenny Bracken. Pallbearers were Eric Leeseberg, Glen Leeseberg, Kareem Abdelrahman, Richard Snyder, Blake Thoennes and Greg Wahlstrand. Interment was in Inman Cemetery in rural Henning. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his sons, Duane (Marian) of Mora, and Curt (Keri) of Wadena; daughters, Ann (Rick) Standal of St. Louis, Mo., Judy (Bob) Hegg, of Alexandria, Terri (Yousri) Abdelrahman of Fridley, and Penny (Bob) Skrentny of Fort Myers, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, David Hall of Wadena; and sister-in-law, Helen Theidich of Henning.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes, on April 1, 2006; his parents, Earnest and Edith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herb and Ida, Harley and Ann Mary, and Floyd and Jewell Leeseberg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Art Boehne, Pearl and Les Schultz, Blanche and Del Roberts, and Florence "Babe" and George Jackson; and brother-in-law, Walt Theidich.
