Lawrence E. Piere
The Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence Piere was held Dec. 29, 2012, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bertha, with Father Peter VanderWeyst presiding.
Lawrence E. Piere, 80, of Verndale, quietly passed away Dec. 23, 2012, in Wadena. He had recently moved to an assisted living facility to help with his daily care.
Lawrence Ernest Piere was born May 31, 1932, in Bartlett Township, Todd County to Ernest and Emma Peka Piere. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, and was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph parish in Bertha. He attended District 112, then Bertha Public, graduating in 1951. Also, Lawrence served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, stationed in California and Europe.
He eventually returned to the family farm, where he devoted his life to dairy farming. Lawrence was very proud of his Holstein dairy and beef cattle. He was very interested in his community, and enjoyed politics. He also was always well read, subscribing to numerous publications, and was very kind to animals. Lawrence enjoyed his dogs and cats.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Emma; sister, Mavis Lubke; brother-in-law, David Piere; sister-in-law, Marlene Piere; infant brother, John in 1946; nephew, William Lubke; and great-nephew, Travis Piere. He is survived by nephews and nieces, Dean Lubke, Jane Stevenson, Theresa Lubke, David Piere, Daniel Piere, Joe Piere and Duane Piere; as well as other extended family, friends and neighbors.
Lawrence was especially appreciative of Daniel and Theresa for the extended assistance they provided him.
"Earth hath no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal." Blessed be his memory.
Pallbearers were David Piere, Daniel Piere, Joe Piere, Duane Piere, Virgil Fah and Wally Wiese.
Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Bertha.
Arrangements were with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha.
