Funeral services for Laura Doon Barnhart of Deer Creek, were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Seventh Day Adventist in Wadena with Pastor Gene Johnson and Pastor Jeff Scoggins presiding. Laura passed away at the age of 88 years on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Laura was born on July 12, 1925, to Frank and Nettie "Lottie" (Russell) Truax at their home near Wrightstown, MN, and attended the country school nearby. Laura worked as a nurses Aid at Wesley Hospital in Wadena for many years. Laura stopped nursing at the time she was united in marriage with Burdette Leslie Barnhart on October 27, 1946 at Hewitt, MN. She continued her nursing career at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, until 1965, when they moved to Escondido, CA, where Laura worked as a head type-setter and stamper at Golden Rule Bindery until 1991. Laura returned home to Minnesota, to the area of her birth, where she enjoyed retirement for over 22 years. In her free time she enjoyed knitting, sewing, doing puzzles and playing lots of Scrabble! Most of all she loved being close to her family.

Laura was preceded in death by her son Gary Lee in 2012; parents Frank and Lottie; and brothers Melvin and Maurice Truax. She is survived by Burdette, her husband of almost 67 years; son Kevin Lynn (Norma) Barnhart of Fortuna, CA; daughter Cheryl Jean (Gottfried) Fritz of Chahalis, WA; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brothers Oliver (Marie) Truax of Deer Creek and Allen (Edie) Truax of Lincoln, NE; sisters Charlotte Mickelson of Alexandria, Loma Snell of Hugo, and Norma (Russ) Durant of Wyoming, MN; brothers-in-law James (Joan) Barnhart of Indianapolis, IN, and Merrill (Bonnie) Barnhart of Days Creek, OR; sisters-in-law Beryl Bason of National City, CA, and Frances (James) Holder of Granite Pass, OR; along with many nieces & nephews.

Interment was in the Hewitt Cemetery in Hewitt.

Arrangements are with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes in Wadena. (
