Laughlin, the son of Ron and Laure Laughlin of Wadena, carries a 3.783 GPA and is enrolled in college courses at WDC. He participates in band, including solo/ensemble contests, as well as serving as a captain of the Wolverine boys' basketball team and he is a member of the baseball team. He plans on attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks next year.

According to Laughlin's letter of recommendation from a WDC teacher, "Isaac has always shown himself to be an excellent role model and he displays leadership qualities on and off the field."

Hope Theisen is the daughter of Dennis and Judy Theisen of Bluffton. Hope has a 3.96 GPA and has taken both college classes at WDC and post-secondary classes. She has participated in visual arts and was the captain of the volleyball team, as well as named All-Conference five times. She was a member of the 2010 State Championship volleyball team as a freshman.

Theisen has also served as a football statistician in the fall. During the winter, she has excelled in basketball, where she's served as a two-year captain and was named All-Conference her sophomore and junior years. Theisen is a three-year captain of the Wolverine girls' golf team.

Theisen plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she will major in political science. According to her letter of recommendation by a WDC teacher, "Hope has proven herself as an outstanding and self-motivated student with appropriately high expectations."

According to the Minnesota State High School League website, the award seeks to elevate academic standards and create greater awareness of league-sponsored activities and their values. The award is sponsored by MSHSL and AAA Auto Club.

Both students have been nominated for the Region 6A Triple "A" Award, with the winner from that level being nominated for the State Triple "A" Award announced at the state basketball tournament in March.
