Lakewood Health System is Marching for Babies
On May Day, May 1st, a team of Lakewood Health System employees and the family and friends of the Adam and Carly Greig family will walk in the Brainerd Lakes March for Babies at Forestview Middle School in Baxter to raise funds for the March of Dimes -- by the name of "Zoe's Angels."
The Zoe Greig family is passionate about sharing the story of their daughter. Zoe was born at Lakewood Health System in 2005 at only 2 pounds, 14 ounces. After 72 days in intensive care at CentraCare in St. Cloud, Zoe pulled through due to technology funded by the March of Dimes. Now, 5 years old, Zoe Greig is the Brainerd Lakes 2010 March of Dimes Ambassador.
At the 2009 March for Babies, the Greigs collected a total of $7,500. Again this year, the Greigs, along with Lakewood Health System, will sport t-shirts proclaiming their team name, Zoe's Angels. With Lakewood Health System's $1,000 donation to kick-start their fundraising efforts, the Greigs are nearly half-way to their fundraising goal of $10,000.
Zoe's story is one of millions of children who didn't get a healthy start. The March of Dimes is dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality and is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.
