Lakers snap WDC's 5-game streak

Mike Hoganson's Detroit Lakes girls stopped a four-game slide Tuesday by handing Wadena-Deer Creek's sizzling team a 50-46 Mid-State Conference loss.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak by the Wolverines and dropped the WDC club to 14-3 overall and 4-3 in the Mid-State.

The Lakers were able to claim a regular season sweep of the Wolverines and pull into a conference tie with WDC. Hoganson's club has a lackluster 7-9 record overall.

On a night when neither Courtney or Caitlin Volkmann figured in the scoring, guard Avery Jackson led the Wolverines with 12 points. Emily Miron came up with 11.

The Wolverines held a slim 24-23 lead at the half on the Detroit Lakes court.

Kayli Muckenhirn led the Lakers with 14 points. Courtney Hedstrom had 13 and Jenny Matter scored 10.

Four players scored in double figures Friday as the Wolverines beat the Cardinals for their fifth straight win.

Kelsi Crawford scored 15 points while Courtney Volkmann scored 14, Emily Miron netted 12 and Caitlin Volkmann had 10. The Wolverines shot 57 percent from the field.

Jaelin Beachy canned 19 points for the Cards while Jasmine McGillvray hit five treys. Abby Smith scored 10 points before fouling out.

The Cards turned the ball over 30 times and had two of their players foul out.

The Wolverines ended the month with a record of 7-1.
