Lakers saddle Wolverines with 84-53 defeat

Robb Flint saw 12 of his Detroit Lakes players contribute to scoring Tuesday night as the Lakers routed Wadena-Deer Creek 84-53 in a Mid-State Conference tilt.

Derek Long paced the Lakers with 17 points while Kirk McLeod scored 14 and Christian Hedstrom netted 12. The Lakers were red-hot at the free-throw line, making 15 of 17 attempts.

Dylan Dumpprope scored a game-high 20 points for the Wolverines. Blake Connell gunned in 10 points.

Both clubs grabbed 22 rebounds. Dumpprope tied Adam Redfield and Jacob Goeden for WDC rebounding honors with seven.

The victory enabled the Lakers to even their season record at 12-12. The Wolverines fell to 5-19. The Lakers are in second place in the Mid-State with a 7-2 record. The Wolverines are 1-9 in conference play.

The Section 8AA boys' basketball tournament is slated to begin Thursday.

Patrick Knoblauch poured in 19 points as the Mainstreeters trounced the Wolverines on the WDC hardcourt Feb. 21.

Josh Buschette and Nick Adams backed up Knoblauch with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Mainstreeters led 37-19 at the half and held the Wolverines to only 14 points in the second half.

Mike Ellens' Sauk Centre crew shot 45 percent from the field. The Mainstreeters were eight of 18 on 3-point attempts for a strong 47 percent clip.

The Wolverines also shot well from 3-point range, canning five of their 10 attempts. The Wolverines took only 35 field-goal shots, converting on 11 for a 31 percent average.

Jacob Goeden was top point man for the Wolverines with 17 tallies.

The Mainstreeters dominated the boards 31-22. Casey Weber grabbed eight rebounds for Sauk Centre. Goeden led the Wolverines with nine rebounds.
