Korean bluegrass musician entertains WDC students
Wadena-Deer Creek School students enjoyed a musical visitor from South Korea on Wednesday. Yong-Kee Seok, a businessman from Seoul, South Korea, and a hobby bluegrass player, sang songs, played guitar and even yodeled to the delight of Mike Ortmann's high school choir students and Deb Andrew's kindergarten students.
Seok was accompanied by his longtime friend and fellow bluegrass musician, Len Kalakian, who met Seok while living in Korea. Seok is staying with Kalakian and his wife, Ginny Dahlstrom, in Wadena.
While performing for WDC students on Wednesday, Seok sang a bluegrass version of what is a popular Korean song called "Arirang." He sang lyrics in both English and Korean. He also played American pop classic "Wipe Out" on the guitar, sang a variety of yodeling songs and several bluegrass selections.
