Music has always had an influence in the Kingery family's household. Mike played professional baseball for 17 years and this created many hours for the children to spend in the car, so singing passed the time well.
When the girls were young, Grandma Marion Kingery started giving them piano lessons. She lived nearby and the girls would walk to her house to learn to play the piano. During this time, Grandma started taking the girls along with her to local nursing homes to sing and play music for the elderly.
Instruments were added when Rachel started taking guitar lessons and Anna learned to play the flute. Soon they were playing and singing at churches, music festivals, fairs, community events, funerals, dinners, benefits, business functions, coffee shops, weddings, and of course, still lots of nursing homes! They play and sing mainly gospel, bluegrass, hymns and a variety of original songs that they've come across over the years.
The Music in the Park series is funded by the Staples Host Lions Club. The series is organized by the Staples Motley Area Arts Council, with the assistance of the Staples Motley Public Schools and the city of Staples.
