Kasma Cousins art exhibit opens at the Cultural Center
The Kasma Cousins Art Exhibit opened Aug. 3 and runs through Sept. 10. Everyone is invited to a reception honoring the artists of the Kasma family on Friday, Aug. 5th from 7-9 p.m. This exhibit features the art of 14 cousins and five aunts from the Kasma family at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.
The artists include Lynn Kasma, a resident of New York Mills and employee of the Cultural Center, and other Kasma relatives from Arizona, California, Canada, Florida and Minnesota. Five Hartman sisters, originally from the Deer Creek area, are the mother and aunts of Sandy Kasma. The Hartman girls, Edna, Rose, Ede, Minnie and Clara, had a theory of waste not want not and their items on exhibit are clear examples of that philosophy .
A wide range of media will be on display including: stained glass, watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings, log furniture, fine furniture, fiber art, a unique grandfather clock and wonderful examples of folk art.
