Juniors create interactive games

Wadena-Deer Creek High School juniors created interactive games as part of their Elementary Logic project. According to WDC English teacher, Mike Brunsberg, the high school students were challenged to develop a 5- to 15-minute activity that allows elementary students to use their reason to "figure something" out.

"We try to steer away from tests of knowledge, and their projects usually take the form of a game to heighten the fun factor," said Brunsberg.

Over one class period on Thursday, Jan. 5, first-, fourth- and sixth-grade students had fun trying the high school students' games and activities. Brunsberg said he likes the teamwork and fellowship aspects of the Elementary Logic project.

"Some of the post-project comments are interesting because high school students are given a glimpse of the challenges and rewards of teaching in a school setting," said Brunsberg.

For many students, it was a change of pace from the usual XBox, Leapster or other technology-based games these youngsters like to play. Fourth-grader Cody Wheeler said he liked trying the variety of games. "They made you think! It was fun," said Wheeler.
