Joyce Klatt

The memorial service for Joyce Klatt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Bertha with Pastor Blake Rickbeil officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Joyce went to sleep and joined the church triumphant Tuesday evening, January 28, 2014, at the age of 78, at Holloway, MN.

Joyce was born to Godfrey Clyde and Mettie LaVonne (Mack) Brueland on April 24, 1935, in Somers, IA, and was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Callender IA, May 23, 1935. She grew up in and around Callender, attended grade school and graduated from Callender High School. She continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. Joyce joined her parents in Bertha, MN 1954. She was employed at Allstate Insurance in the Twin Cities and Harnishs in Wadena.

Joyce was united in marriage with Mervin William Klatt August 6, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wadena MN. They lived on a farm in Bartlett Township, and she worked at Bertha Hospital until it closed, Wood and Conn in Moorhead MN and at Todd County Social Services. Her husband Mervin passed away suddenly on July 16, 2004. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Lioness, and St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Bertha, where she was involved in the ladies aid and choir. Along with baking and cooking she liked playing cards and dominoes. Going to the movies or for a drive in the country were pastimes she enjoyed. Joyce felt blessed to have a wonderful caring family and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Mervin; parents Clyde and LaVonne; brothers Mack Burton and Clyde Eugene; and sister Belva Lou.

She is survived by a daughter Deborah LaVonne Klatt, of Mora MN; sons David Mervin Klatt (Kimberley) of Fargo ND, and Donald Michael Klatt (Teresa) of Holloway MN; nine grandchildren; Michael Steven Undem, Mark David Undem (Emily), Joseph David Klatt (Brittany), Danielle Rae Markel (Corey), Alexandra Rae Klatt, Heather Christine Klatt, Alyssa Marie Borchers (Brent), Jared Donald Klatt and Jordan Isaac William Klatt; four great-grandchildren with four more expected this year; brother John (Trixie) Brueland of Tracy, CA; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Bartlett Township, Todd County, MN.

Arrangements are with the Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha. (
