Joyce Delores Hoyhtya, 79, of Perham, passed away July 2, 2009, at West Central Community Services in Perham.
She was born March 23, 1930, in New York Mills, to Aldrich and Ruth (Palo) Hoyhtya. She grew up on the family farm in rural New York Mills. She attended Prairie School District 160. She had resided Scandia Village with her mother, Ruth, for a number of years. She has also made her home at the Sheldon Residence in Richville, the Otter Tail Lake Residence Home on Otter Tail Lake and recently at West Central Community Services in Perham. She was always active and enjoyed keeping busy. She enjoyed handwork, crocheting and embroidery.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 6, at the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills with the Rev. Phil Holtan officiating. The pallbearers were Jerry Hoyhtya, Nicholas Hoyhtya, Paul Hoyhtya, Ruth Hoyhtya, Eric Bakka and Peter Bakka. She was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills. Survivors include her sister, Greta Bakka of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; nieces and nephews; numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcella; brothers, Clyde (Florine) and James (Sylvia); and a nephew.
