He was born Nov. 14, 1936, to Frank and Veronica (Uselman) in Wadena. He served honorably in the Army from December 1959 to March 1962. He married Barbara Jean Kliber on June 22, 1968 in Little Falls. He will be remembered as a lifelong member of the community. He farmed for 40 years while also doing truck maintenance for 25 years at Cenex and Northern Coop, and working as a tire technician for Polman Transfer for 20 years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and was especially fond of spending time with his grandchildren. He always enjoyed fixing other people's junk, often turning trash into treasures. He fed song birds and worked around the yard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, May 30, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena, with the Rev. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wadena. Honorary pallbearers were Vernon VanOrsdel, Jim Pierce, Jeff Veronen, Bernie Sabinash, Harlan Thompson and Larry Clark. Pallbearers were Jay Veronen, Ken DeGarmo, Roger Schiller, Rick Wegscheid, Harry Benusa, and Randy Grondahl. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Wadena. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; son, Ron (Grace), of Deer Creek; daughter, Nancy (Eric) Pierce, of Deer Creek; four grandchildren; brother, Duane (Dot) of Wadena; sister, Joanne (Tony) Kuefler of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; mother-in-law Muriel (Anderson) Kliber; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Veronica; and father-in-law, Florian "Slim" Kliber.
