Joey's PC owner Joey McQuiston said he has so much new space, he's just working to fill it up with merchandise.

McQuiston moved in June to his new location in the former Interior Solutions building in the 300 block of South Jefferson. His former store, next to Larry's Pizza, was about 1,000 square feet. The new one is 3,500.

"Everyone's like, 'what are you going to do with all that space,'" McQuiston said. "I'll use it. Trust me."

McQuiston is quickly filling up the store with desktop computers, laptops, cases, cooling pads, printers, printer cartridges, USB hubs, card readers, graphics cards, surge protectors, DVD drives, networking equipment, jump drives, memory, mice, MP3 players and battery backups. He carries new and used computers in both desktop and laptop models.

Still, he has more space, and McQuiston is tossing around the idea of adding TVs or office furniture to his merchandise.

McQuiston said he's always been interested in computers, and went to school at M State Wadena to learn even more.

His prices are surprisingly competitive with big-box stores and Internet-based retailers, which have notoriously low margins. How does he do it?

"I can usually beat a Wal-Mart in price on the same product," he said. "It's just me -- no employees. I don't have any debt."

McQuiston said his retail operation is only a small part of his business, which includes service at his shop for residential computer users, and on-site service for business clients.

"Whatever they need me to do computer related, technology related," he said.

McQuiston works on servers, does on-site installations, and can clear your computer of viruses or other problems in his shop for a flat fee.

McQuiston said he plans to do a grand opening in his new location at some point, but is still getting set up.
