Jerry Wambolt

Jerry Neil Wambolt, 69, of Nevis and New York Mills, passed away March 27, 2009, after a long battle with congestive heart failure due to five open-heart surgeries and recent lung and bone cancer.

He was born at home on Dec. 6, 1939, to Edward and Alice (Westvik) Wambolt in Nevis. He was the seventh of 10 children. He lived most of his life in the Nevis area with the exception of moving to Sacramento, Calif., in 1998 and moving back to Minnesota in 2005 to New York Mills.

He attended Nevis Public School and graduated in 1958. In 1961, he married Bonnie Kriens of Park Rapids and they were married for 10 years. Two children (Jodi and Gregory) were born to the marriage. He married Jeannette (Limanen) Borg, originally from Sebeka, in 1972. They had one mutual child (Jason) and he adopted her two children (Jamieson and Laurice).

He worked for Aluminum Industries and Crosby Tool Company, Minneapolis, until 1963. He moved back to Nevis and became plant manager for North States Industries in 1963 until 1972. He then worked for Gross Construction Company, Nevis, as carpenter foreman for five years and started his own building contracting business in 1977 to 1985. Due to two heart surgeries, he worked for Nevis Lumber Company until 1987. He resumed his own building contracting business in 1987 until he became disabled after his third heart surgery in 1989.

He was a volunteer fireman for Nevis Fire Department for seven years, Nevis Township Board member for six years, member of Muskie, Inc., was a member of Church of Christ and Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis, Gloria Dei Lutheran, Sacramento, and Trinity Lutheran Church, New York Mills. He loved spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, traveling, football games, playing cards, crossword puzzles, politics and home projects.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills with the Revs. Jon Hakana and Daniel Holm of Kenwood Lutheran Church, Duluth, officiating. Holm had formerly been his pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church, Nevis, and had known the family for many years. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons: Bryce, Brandon and Blaze Bellomo, Bret Wambolt, Colton Turner, Gregory Hurlburt, Devon Wambolt and William Wambolt Scott. Survivors include his wife, Jeannette; sons, Gregory (Lori) Wambolt of Nevis, Jason (Kimberly) Wambolt of Ft. Drum, N.Y.; Jamieson Wambolt of Hayward, Wis.; daughter, Laurice Undem, Waite Park, Minn.; son-in-law, Daniel Hardy, Fargo; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Marjorie) Wambolt of Chaska, Minn., Clyde (Cloe) Wambolt of Casper, Wyo., Robert (Pauline) Wambolt of Nevis; sisters, Genevieve Anderson (Norval Turnage) of Nevis, Beverly (Carl) Rodriguez of Wheatland, Calif., Hazel (Brian) Toyama of Sacramento, Calif., and Yvonne Wambolt of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Elna Wambolt of Siren, Wis.; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alice Wambolt; his infant sister, Juanita; brother, Arnold (Skip) Wambolt; daughter, Jodi Hardy; an infant grandson; brother-in-law, Keith Anderson; and father and mother in-law, Eino and Aleda (Windels) Limanen.
