Funeral service for Jerry E. Anderson of Wadena, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Wadena Alliance Church with Reverend Vaughn White presiding. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena and again from 12:30 until the time of services at the church. Jerry passed away at the Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN on Friday, May 31st at the age of 70 years. Jerry Edward Anderson was born at Wesley Hospital in Wadena on March 5th, 1943 to Lloyd and Olive (Heard) Anderson. He attended school in Wadena until 4th grade when his parents moved to Henning. He attended country school, then Henning High School graduating in 1961. He attended Staples Technical for a short time before enlisting in the Navy in 1962. He was honorably discharged in March of 1965. In April of 1965 he began working for United Parcel Service where he would work for the next 31 years as a delivery driver, retiring in 1996. He married Gwen Olson from Wadena on Nov. 6th, 1965 at the CMA Church in Wadena. Their son Stace joined the family in January, 1975. Jerry enjoyed people. He made friends easily and was always able to find something in common with those he came in contact with. He enjoyed hunting, fishing or just spending time with his family and friends at the cabin. He loved doing yard work and took a great deal of pride in his beautiful lawn. In 2007 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He went to live at the VA Nursing Care Facility in 2009 where he received the greatest love and care from all of the staff. He was very content and was well loved by all of those who cared for him. Jerry is survived by his wife, Gwen of Wadena, his son Stace; two granddaughters, Olivia and Hazel: two sisters, Jean Dorman of Wadena and Joyce (Lyndon) Ricke of Hastings, MN, sisters-in-law Julaine (Henry) Marsh of Panama City, FL and Lynette Winger of Auburn, WA; brother-in-law Ross (Bunni) Olson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by the many people lucky enough to call him their friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Olive and Lloyd Anderson. Burial will be in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
