Jerome Schmitz

The Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome Schmitz of rural Wadena will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013, at St. Fredericks Catholic Church in Verndale, with Fathers Arlie Sowada and Wilfred Theisen as celebrants. Friends may call at the Schuller Family Funeral Homes Verndale Chapel on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with Rosary at 5:00 and Prayers at 6:00. Visitation will resume at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. On Dec. 5, 2013, Jerome Clarence Schmitz passed away at age 84 at his home.

Jerome Clarence Schmitz was born to Paul and Luella (Fackrell) Schmitz on September 5, 1929 in Wadena, MN. Jerome owned and operated a Century Dairy Farm for 49 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He believed in serving his community and was a member of the Wadena Township Board for 43 years. He was also an active church member of St. Frederick's Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had many friends in the community and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was an avid reader and enjoyed many interests including hunting, fishing, and traveling.

A job well done and a life well lived. Blessed be his memory.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Tabery Schmitz, daughters, Mary Ann (Bob) Mowatt, Margaret (Francis) Prokop, and Diane (Steve) Lee; sons, Paul Schmitz and Mark (Renae) Schmitz; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; along with a brother Herb Schmitz and sisters Betty Lorentz, Caroline Rebischke and Joan Lee.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brit Lee, Joshua Lee, Cody Prokop, Matt Mowatt, Zachary Schmitz, Connor Schmitz and Jacob Schmitz.

Military honors will be provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena, MN.

Burial will be in St. Fredericks Catholic Church in Verndale.
