The memorial service for Jeanette VanMiddendorp of Walker, and formerly of Verndale, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. Friends may call on Tuesday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service. Jeanette passed away at the age of 96, on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Walker, MN.
Jeanette was born to Jan and Harmpje (Zoet) Rens on January 28, 1917, in Sioux City, IA. She was united in marriage with John "Jack" Henry VanMiddendorp on December 4, 1935, in Rock Valley, IA. After getting married they moved to California, where Jack worked on a dairy. They decided to move to Minnesota to farm, and later to Colorado, where Jack worked at Safeway. Upon his retirement they returned to Minnesota. In her free time she enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching and fishing.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband Jack on September 13, 1993; parents Jan and Harmpje; daughter Betty Jane Kempe; brothers Tim, Gilbert, Gerrit and Rich; and sisters Alice, Jannetje "Jen" and Hermina.
She is survived by her grandsons Brad (Mary Dee) Kempe of Verndale and Rod (Brenda) Kempe of Hewitt; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale, MN.
